Welcome to the Town of Essex

The Town of Essex occupies parts of the northern shores of Lake Erie and extends all the way to the center of Essex County. The Town of Essex is comprised of four communities: Essex Centre, Harrow, Colchester and McGregor. With fertile farmland and a booming wine industry the agriculture sector is very important to the Town’s economy.

Harrow serves as the agricultural hub of the community and is home to the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s research centre. Colchester offers stunning views and access to Lake Erie through the Colchester Harbour. McGregor is home to the Wildwood Golf & RV Resort, while Essex Centre boasts the historic Essex Railway Station and beautiful painted murals.

The Town of Essex is located right in the middle of the EPIC Wine Country route and offers excellent wine tasting tours throughout the local area in the summer and fall months.

Life in the Town of Essex

Each community of the Town of Essex has it’s own unique feel which complements each other.

Essex Centre has consistently been awarded the 5 Bloom rating by Communities in Bloom and has recently made efforts to restore the various painted murals found throughout the core.

Harrow has a relaxed pace of life and is the host of Ontario’s most successful agricultural fair, the Harrow Fair, which has a 150-year history.

Colchester is best known for it’s annual Walleye Fishing Derby which brings anglers together from around the Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair region.

There are a variety of schooling options throughout each community and Highway #3 offers a convenient travel route to the University of Windsor and St. Clair College.


Things to Do in the Town of Essex

The Town of Essex is host to many fantastic wineries and is located along the EPIC Wine Country route.

The Essex Railway Station is a historical landmark located in Essex Centre that is open to the public and features a well-maintained flower garden. There are a variety of active living opportunities available to Essex Centre residents through the Essex Centre Sports Complex which offers: hockey, baseball, soccer and a large indoor walking track.

The community of Colchester is proud of the Colchester Harbour and Beach which gives residents a place to relax and fish, there is also a public beach which hosts two beach volleyball nets.

The community of Harrow is well-known for it’s selection of local antique shops. Harrow is also home to a fantastic sports and recreation facility that includes a splash pad, single-pad arena, baseball diamonds, soccer field and walking trails.

The communities of the Town of Essex have access to the Chrysler Greenway which makes biking around Windsor-Essex a very safe and enjoyable activity.

Sadler's Pond
 

A popular home for Canada Geese, this park features walking/biking trails and two ponds for residents to enjoy.

Colchester Harbour

Dubbed the "Walleye Capitol" of Canada, this 82 slip harbour has fueling facilities, a boat ramp and sandy beach.

Harrow Recreation Centre

Providing residents access to a single-pad arena, meeting rooms, soccer field, splash pad and baseball diamond.

Garfield's
 

The perfect place to stop for a meal made from local ingredients before taking off to explore the shores of Lake Erie.

Billy's Taphouse
 

Known for their fantastic locally sourced food and beers, Billy's is also home to a popular volleyball league.

Essex Recreation Complex

This facility boasts two indoor pools, a hot tub, water slide and offers swimming lessons and fitness programs.
